(CNN) — President Barack Obama called the mass shooting at an LGBT nightclub Sunday an “act of terror” in remarks to the nation from the White House briefing room. “We know enough to say this was an act of terror and an act of hate,” he said. “The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terror. We will go wherever the facts lead us … What is clear is he was a person filled with hatred.” At least 50 people were killed and 53 more wounded in the what is now the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Obama said while it could have been any one of our communities, “this is an especially heartbreaking day for our friends who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.”
URGENT – KABC: West Hollywood suspect in custody had arsenal, camouflage outfit
(CNN) — Authorities took a suspect into custody in West Hollywood, California, after discovering an arsenal in his car that included explosive powder, assault weapons and a camouflage outfit, CNN affiliate KABC reported, citing unnamed authorities. The suspect told authorities that he was there for the Los Angeles Pride festival, which is underway this weekend. “We’re assisting our local partners,” Los Angeles FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told CNN. She would not provide additional details. A police news conference is expected shortly.

(CNN) — The Orlando nightclub shooter called 911 around the time of the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston bombers, according to a U.S. official.
(CNN) — The FBI investigated Orlando nightclub shooting suspect Omar Mateen for possibly having ties or being a sympathizer to Islamic extremism, according to a law enforcement official and a U.S. official. There were two cases opened on Mateen in the past, the law enforcement official told CNN. The investigations didn’t find evidence to charge him with anything, the officials said.
URGENT – Orlando Shooting Guns ATF
(CNN) — The suspect in the Orlando shooting purchased a handgun and a long gun within the last few days, ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Trevor Velinor told reporters. “He is not a prohibited person. They can legally walk into a gun dealership and acquire and purchase firearms. He did so. And he did so within the last week or so,” Velinor said.
