Country fans know that sometimes a song just sounds familiar. That was the topic of a recent on-air conversation with Hawkeye & Michelle, when the team started comparing three songs that share a surprisingly similar feel.
The discussion started with a classic: Neon Moon by Brooks & Dunn. The legendary 1992 hit has one of the most recognizable cadences in country music. With its smooth melody and lonely-bar storytelling, it is a song many country fans instantly recognize within seconds.
To remind listeners of that familiar rhythm, Hawkeye and Michelle played a short clip of Neon Moon, focusing on the way the lyrics flow and the tempo of the melody.
Enter Cody Johnson’s “Blame Texas”
Next up was Blame Texas, a newer release from Cody Johnson. When the team first heard the track, they immediately noticed something intriguing. The cadence sounded… familiar.
When you listen closely to the phrasing and pacing of the lyrics, it carries a similar musical rhythm to Neon Moon. Not identical, but close enough.
The conversation got even more interesting when another hit entered the discussion: Choosin’ Texas by Ella Langley. That song has been one of the biggest tracks in country music recently. While Choosin’ Texas does not necessarily sound like Neon Moon, Blame Texas seems to sit somewhere in the middle stylistically.
